Letter TV is a collaborative project between the Agency for Instructional Technology
and Destiny Images. The project consists of 26 five-minute videos (one for each letter of the alphabet),
this Web site, and a CD-ROM. Letter TV builds basic phonemic awareness skills for pre-literate youngsters
and introduces them to the wonders of reading.

The Letter TV videos showcase the sound(s) associated with each letter. Cross-curricular content
is carefully woven into each program as well. The programs are short segments because research shows
that four- and five-year-olds can become quite passive while viewing television for longer periods.
Teachers are encouraged to use the programs as an integral part of a comprehensive introduction to
reading skills. The teacher's guide on this Web site gives specific suggestions for utilization of the videos.

Letter TV can be found on many public broadcasting stations in the US, Canada, and elsewhere. Click on
"Where to Find Letter TV Broadcasts" for a complete list. Teachers and parents may also purchase videos
and CD-ROMs directly from AIT. Go to the teacher's section and click on "Shopping."
